The GridPathway Institute (GPI)
GPI is an independent organization headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, concentrating on research and development of solutions for power grid transformation, including electrification and decarbonization. The institute is committed to actualizing Smart Grid Interoperability (SGI) developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST 4.0) and standardized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The GPI Collaboratory was established in 2008 and works towards aligning, converging, and integrating SGI implementation efforts between several organizations. These organizations include Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), National Science Foundation Grid-Connected Advanced Power Electronics Systems (NSF G.R.A.P.E.S), University of Texas-Austin Semiconductor Power Electronics Center (SPEC), and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Center for Sustainable Electric Energy Systems (SEES), and the Texas State University Consortium “Connected Infrastructure for Education, Demonstration, and Applied Research” (CIEDAR).
The ultimate goal of this collaboration is to create 200-400K, high-value, SGI-oriented jobs to decentralize grid control to enable the scalable, plug-and-play insertion of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) devices. A joint development effort with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) will train and provide a diversified workforce.
GPI members are neither employed nor compensated by GridPathway.
